Norwegian Championship a test for the Europeans

This weekend the Norwegian Championship takes place at Grimstad, and the center of activities will be the Marina Bar right in town inside the fjord with the slips at one side where the Soling will park for an entire week with a fabulous background.

The Saturday had an amazing forecast, despite rain and cold arriving later in the day. Initially the international fleet who entered the Norwegian Championship with countries from Germany, Canada, Sweden and USA amongst the Norwegian head out the outside race course area, three races were held there with the standard ISA racecourse with winds of 12 to 15 knots occasionally some extra gusts which made downwind fun, and a hard work for the crew.

With the stormy conditions approaching to the fjord, boats where sent to the inside racecourse, a few locals took a detour through the islands and channels, then all boats met in an island and waited until the racecourse was set .
Two more races were held, these were a bit shorter, but also had three laps and the Hollywood finish or mini reach and you will call it one or the other way depending on where you live.

NOR 156 helmed by Anders O Pedersen and sailing with Kjell Inge Heiberg and Alexander Ringstad was the team to beat, they managed an impressive result of 1,4,1,1,1 taking four bullets.
NOR 124 helmed by the last Olympic bronze medalist Herman Horn Johannessen sailing with his son Cesar and brother Lars Horn Johannessen started slow and kept improving during the day having the following finishes 8,5,2,3,2 enough to keep them ahead team Helly Hansen NOR 131 helmed by Tomas Mathisen sailing with Trond Solli Saether and Joachin Nordle who kept steady good results 3,2,7,6,3.
CAN 225 helmed by Peter Hall sailing with Matthew Nelson and gord Devries were the best out of town starting quite solid with 2,3,9,4,6 and keeps the fight.

This weekend racing celebrates King Harald' sailing trajectory an honor that the Soling class had to be able to remember its honorary president in his country.
