Two races at the Zipfer Trophy on its first day

The traditional event held at the UYCAs on lake Attersee, sponsored by the famous Austrian beer company started with the right foot although the weather forecast didn't promised enough.

Two races were accomplished by the IRO Gert Schmidleitner, both windward / leeward courses of two laps and a mini reach to finish.
The first race started with winds from 7 to 10 knots from the North – Northwesterly and the second race the wind increased up to 13 knots but it suddenly went down for right before the windward mark making the leaders go crazy to a point some fighting at the top ended rounding in the 20's .

GER 339 helmed by Donald Lippert and sailing with Phyllis Lippert and Sven Rikwald did a perfect job to honor team boss Tim Giesecke who a few weeks ago suffer some heart injuries and for a while will have to be absent from the racing. They take home two bullets but also profile themselves to lift the trophy and take the beer keg home.

Another German team but this time younger hotshots GER 77 helmed by Hagen Rueffert sailing with Max Bergk and Christopher Zeidler had two impressive finishes with a 4th and a 2nd jumping second overall, ahead GER 11 helmed by veteran Michael Dietzel sailing with Martin Zeileis and Hannes Ramoser who had a 3rd and a 5th as finishes for the day.

The day was called off with AP and Alpha due to lighting storms that never arrived, but this was just the excuse to gather at the UYCAs terrace under the Zipfer tent and start drinking the beer that continues to be poured on empty glasses. Tomorrow the club will offer a Dinner to all sailors after the races but before the races start it also offers a traditional breakfast at the UYCAs restaurant.
