Friday, July 24, raging wildfires in Spain continued to move towards the Spanish capital bringing more destruction. The fires moved quickly and ferociously into the Embalse de San Juan towards the yachting facilities of the Real Club Nautico de Madrid. At the same time, sailors were largely preparing for holiday traveling to potentially distant locations. Many boats were hauled out awaiting the next racing season. Sadly, 14 of 16 Solings caught fire and were destroyed as well as much of the club infrastructure and many other boats. Boats in the water survived the onslaught.

The ISA is relieved that sailors and friends were not injured with hopes that the RCNM fleet can recover. In addition to losing boats, the Soling class faces the prospect of losing an important fleet having hosted numerous events. Spanish sailors traveled long drives to participate in international events demonstrating their strong skills and fleet camaraderie. The ISA stands by as we await more news from Madrid.

This is a shared loss for all for the ISA Executive and the entire Soling class. We support the Spanish fleet remembering the fun we had in the past and more importantly to be had in the future. As a Class we bring many specialities. Know that we will help and that we have you in our hearts and thoughts.
