Wind from another direction, puffy and sometimes strong, but at least the sun gave a break today

Two more races at the 2025 Soling World Championship were held at the Veleiros do Sul in the city of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. This time IRO Odecio Adam with a really scary forecast was cautious and set two races using course number 2. The two laps were shorter than 1 hour racing for the 4 prior races, but the intentions were to get the races in and send sailors back to the harbor before the super heavy winds entered the Guaiba river area.

The first races started with 15 to 17 knots of wind from Northwest veering to the right side (more to the North) and favoring the fleet that chose that side of the course. GER 1 (Koch, Hasenclever and Koch) were over early and had to return to the starting line. This time they went to the right to recover some that was lost.

On the left side BRA 78 (Nelson Ilha, Manfredo Floricke and Leo Mayrhofer) had a great start on the left but quickly went to the right which put them in competition again soon enough to come back to the left side to leeward of BRA 86 (Cicero Hartmann, Frederico Sidou and Regis Silva) and (CAN 225 with Peter Hall, Gustavo Ilha and William Hall), both tacked to the right side earlier after the center of the course, BRA 78 continued a bit more before tacking. CAN 225 rounded the mark first, followed by BRA 78 and HUN 11 (Litkey Farkas, Karoly Vezer and Kristoff Wossala) followed by ARG 42 (Gustavo Warburg, Hernan Celedoni and Raul Viola).
BRA 78 after the offset mark jibed earlier than the other boats and at the end of the downwind went to the gate on the left and CAN 225 to the gate on the right, both rounded at the same time. Behind BRA 78, ARG 42, BRA 86 and BRA 73 (Kadu Bergenthal, Vilnei Goldmeier and Edgar Oppitz) and at the other mark HUN 11 and GER 11 (Dietzel, Zeileis and Ramoser).

BRA 86 tacked right after rounding the mark to the left, but BRA 73 continued to the right side together with ARG 42, the rounding at the second upwind mark BRA 78 consolidated his lead with CAN 225 following, ARG 42 and BRA 73, this last jibing at the offset mark which later made the difference to grant his second place ahead CAN 225 and ARG 42.

The second race, the wind dropped initially only to increase later but never at the same intensity as Race #5. A couple of boats on the right side like HUN 11 and USA 853 overstood the mark for miles! They both confused by a small island which looked like the windward mark. The fleet ahead on the left was faster and BRA 86 rounded first the mark ahead CAN 225, BTA 78 and BRA 73 (Carioba/Alumnsa), this last passing BRA 78 on the downwind and all of them rounding the right leeward.
The same way they managed to keep during the whole beat and next downwind to finish in such a way that BRA 86 (Don't let me down) looks strong and the team to beat with 5 bullets and a 6th as their discard.

Three more races are scheduled and so far three different winds at the racecourse, from nice one to light to strong, all conditions sorted providing teams with challenges to obtain the best outcome for the event.

Due to the conditions a few boats decided to not sail the sixth race.

Thanks Cave Poseidon (BRA 34 Carlo De Leo) a winning wine company from Porto Alegre to support the event and providing each race winner with a wine, BRA 86 is beginning to look like a full wine cellar. The Barcellos restaurant for a great gala dinner evening held on Wednesday.

Those interested on race replays and or live action, this is possible through www.kwindoo.com chosing the 2025 Soling World Championship event.

Tomorrow two more races are scheduled for 1300hs.
