The Yacht Club Veleiros do Sul a traditional institution in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazi finishes all the details for the 2025 World Championship.
The club which could be the envy to most other Yacht Clubs around the world has in its heritage the 100% focus on Sailing, where power boats are rarely seen, mainly used for club tasks purposes, it counts with an entire marine business inside the club that would allow any member to re-build its boat and or create new ones.
The expected World Championship comes to celebrate a club 90th anniversary it won't be a crowded event, consequences of known circumstances in South America that varies from economy to regulations, fleet distances and poor infrastructure to travel, besides the rising cost of traveling worldwide, but for sure it will be one of the highest level ones counting with 5 past World Champions, 4 of them with more than one title, winners like the ones from ARG, HUN, GER, CAN and two immediate followers in more than just one time all from Brazil.
It is the best chance for a South American team to take the title, they have the chance to use their own boat, and have farily better knowledge from the Southern wind pattern meanwhile overseas champions are mainly renting unknown equipment. If you are not attending you anyway will have the chance to follow the competition live and after the racing through tracking application Kwindoo www.kwindoo.com .
The competition might be hard in the water, but all activities tend to center around the club, with a swimming pool ready ,a fantastic restaurant and terrace where sailors will share their stories, but t won't stop there as many will be staying at the club itself who counts with different dorm types, I guess the restaurant bar will be running late, since starts are not earlier than 1200hrs due to the wind pattern.
This is only achieved because of a whole integrated club own staff that counts with an IRO completely dedicate to run the regattas inshore and offshore, besides many some IJs as members and members dedicated to the nautical industry. Reason It counts with the Soling family but as well fleets from HPE, J70, Laser, Optimist, 420s and 470s and their traditional ORC/PHRF fleet moored in the club bay and amongst the sailing equipment a famous sailing school so called Minuano ( a typical strong wind that hits the shores of the YC).
We should not forget that in 2024 the Yacht Club was harassed by the Guaiba river waters with an unprecedent flooding that ruined almost the whole infrastructure of the club and city and meanwhile the waters started to go down, the club was the leading key to the rescue action proceeding in the rescue of thousands of people that lost their homes in the estuary and once back to normal the main focus of the club went to rebuild the one and make it possible to organize this world wide event and leave behind such horrors situation therefore the appreciation to the international sailors effort in attending and competing at the Pedra Redonda racecourse is enormous.
This is all possible thanks to a great number of members, some not even residing in Porto Alegre, a select group of partners, like the CBVela, CBC, the Government of RS and Brazilian laws that support the sport itself side by side with private companies like ALIANÇA, Banrisul, Topazio, Casa das Correntes, Dalla Valle, Enauta, Engie, Grupo Flagatter, GSH Sangue, Icatu Vanguarda, Iagente, Lebes, PMweb, Ventos do Sul, Vero.
Looking forward to seeing you at the racecourse or at least at the Yacht Club since on Nov. 19th the ISA will celebrate its annual meetings.
