The Union Yacht Club Attersee (UYCAs) the host of the Soling main event in Austria is expectant they are close to be the largest Soling event for the year 2025. All this due to the strong work done by class member Ludwig Beurle that should be proud on what he has achieved in the past 19 years of partnership with his yacht club and the iconic Austrian beer brand ZIPFER, making the event so special that no one wants to miss it despite sometimes the wind abandon the sailors.
The Zipfer Trophy also will be the Austrian and Hungarian Championship, and besides the natural locals and Hungarian teams, the German squad is taking the challenge seriously being 12 out of already 31 teams registered, and amongst the usual suspects a crowd of young teams are creating their own challenge no one is sure the one is being done at the race course or outside at the bar with the outstanding outdoors sightseeing at this famous Alps lake.
What in the past of the Soling class was an isolated case led by Olympian Joanne Abbott at the Candian team, now in central Europe is becoming more natural to see women sailing at the Soling, not only crewing but also helming these days, 8 to 10 female sailors out of the 93 attending so far. They are mostly at the young teams who are already reaching 9 teams that for sure will drop the average age of the Soling class.
The Zipfer Trophy will start on August 21 and end on Sunday 23, a three-day event to celebrate the end of the summer in Europe. It also will be the event that will probably give most of the ranking points to its top finishers just falling behind the Europeans held in Italy past May.
