A perfect sailing day at the North American Championship in Kingston

CAN 230 the overall leader after the third day

Two beautiful races with a nice blow from 12 to 17 knots with some swells starting to build, and very close racing. The only problem was the new self-positioning marks... they are too small, impossible to be seen, once at the second race even with some Etchells ahead rounding the same mark almost all Solings ended up overstanding the first weather mark.
The first race won by CAN 230 Ross Findlater, John McNeil and Gord Devries had a close fight with CAN 1 Bill Abbott, Joanne Abbott and Matthew Godfrey and USA 853 Matias Collins, Peter Norman and James Watson who lead the first downwind and part of the second upwind, losing big by being at left side when it paid with pressure the right side of the course, not even taking into account that the gates where not event (supposedly to be set automatically by software).

The second race started similar, but CAN 225 Peter Hall, Bruce Empey and Will Franklin-Thorphe knew the drill, even sailing with a rudder that is begging for replacement managed to lead all the way and show the not so young sailors how it is done. Right behind was CAN 230 who had his day to jump into the lead overall after CAN 1 failing to get a good race, not often seen, taking the keys of the course for the day. In third came CAN 233 with Tom Freeman, Dave Valdestra and Steve Donker all the way from Port Stanley. Joe Hidalgo (USA 852, middle) said it was the best day ever!

Now in 1830 at the Kingston Yacht Club the sailors will meet for the event dinner.
