With a day to celebrate, shifty conditions, ups and downs, the wind started late but it came and all 8 races scheduled were achieved by the race officer Silvio Dell Innocenti, bravo!
It has been an amazing week, temperatures kept rising, the sun never forgot to shine, the wind always came and at the second day we had the Northern wind, a total game changer for some boats.
Today the fight at the top was intense AUT 7 (Felzmann, Felzmann & Beurle) a strong contester who already suffered on the last race of yesterday braking their main halyard, today had the same issue with the spare one at the last race of the day killing their possibilities to the title they already won in 2022 at their home lake Attersee.
AUT 117 (Farthofer, Matheis, Mueller) also a contender to the title and together with AUT 7 before the day started with the positions and the position of AUT 119 (Hoyer, Zeidler and Sailor) where achieving the Rien Seegar trophy (to the third placed team for the best country at the Europeans...) but things didn't go right, despite sailing impressively AUT 119 and AUT 117 couldn't keep up with the Norwegians, the country who achieved the less points and awarded the Rien Seegar trophy to NOR 142 (Ingeberg, Johansson & Elvik) a great deserved trophy to a team that have worked hard to restore Solings in Norway (Grimmstad region). This was possible due to the great performance of the Norwegian youth team NOR 141 (Ausfjord, Flo & Faejrre Flo) finishing 11th and not only helping to achieve the Rien Seegar Trophy but also the BSA Young helm, a trophy they have many years to come and contest for. The event had a record of youth teams coming from Italy, Germany, Austria and Norway.
The youth team AUT 43 , the girls sensation of the event, did a wonderful job, Hanna Neumueller, Elena Strauch and Liselotte Widschwendrer finishing at 24th place won the Reloaded Trophy awarded to the best women placed at the European Championship.
The whole shake up came when despite USA 853 (Collins, Bamueller & Mueller called a crew change for the last race since Valentin Mueller had a commitment to sail the 49er Europeans at Tesseloniki (Greece) and had to fly from Bergamo at 0300 PM, the team attempted hard to at least sail the 7th race with him, not possible due to the delays, Tommaso Comelli (20 – another youth) were already at the rib waiting for his chance to try a Soling, did a great job after the 20 min of explanations in the morning on how the Soling works and all the lines where there to be used and not to scare the user. They managed to sail fast and achieve two crucial 5th places, fighting always with the leaders, enough to catapult them from 9th to 5th overall. They witnessed the great action in between HUN 1 and NOR 131 (Nergaard, Barne & Solli-Saether ) while SLO 1 (Antoncic, Strakh & Strahovnik) was achieving their bullet to climb to the third place oveall, this last race had GER 311 (Geisler, Behrendt & Stiel) finishing second.
With the third place HUN 1 Sandor Varjas, Karoly Vezer & Gabor Meretei just ahead NOR 131 achieved their European Championship title. They got the trophies now nicely packed in their own cases carefully made by Kristian Nergaard to preserve the ones.
Next continental event for the class will be in Kingston, Canada with the North Americans, a small fleet of US and Canadian boats will be racing for the beautiful Bear trophy.
