The European Championship had a glamorous “jornata” at their second racing day. After a strong wind from the North overnight, the day had no clouds, temperatures were close in the 34 degrees, the sun was shining over Lake Como and earlier there were no wind, but suddenly it came a North wind quite strong that lasted enough for the first race, by the start of the first race the one had decreased and was ranging from 11 to 14 knots, the left side was not the prevailing one but not for much, anyways NOR 131 (Nergaard, Barne & Solli-Saether) came from a deep right side to take the lead over HUN 1 (Varjas, Vezer & Meretei), in third came AUT 7 (Felzmann, Beurle & Felzmann) probably the next generation of lake wind sniffers. The race had some shouting and some people playing Go-Karts causing some sails damages. Other teams managed to damage their sails by their own and now are under the sun before the fire starts stiching, batten pockets, snaps buttons, etc.

The wind was polite enough to die at the last downwind leg in this first race of the day, and remained dead for a little while, so sailors were waiting for some time when again came from the North, but at this time, all the so called hot shots banged the right side from the start with short tacks on that shore side, the wind was not strong, around 7 to 10 knots only to at some point decrease to 5-8 knots, all those that look dead on the left side had a 40 dagrees shift with a nice 12 knot breeze to launch their races again leaving the right side behind, wow USA 853 (Collins, Baumueller & Mueller) were exchanging the course key with GER 7 (Diesing, Witt & Schoop), by some time the first one fully decided gave the key and went away to do its race. At the lead AUT 117 (Farthofer, Matheis & Mueller) had taken off and were looking after the finish line with an impressive distance to the bottom fleet. They were followed for other left believers like GBR 155 (Richardson, Preston & Sloane) who finished a great race in second, in third came SLO 1 (Antoncic, Strakh & Strahovnik).

Sailors back to the harbor were enjoying ther afternoon while the LNI Mandello del Lario is making the last preparative to host their “Asado” in the Lake
Warning signal for the next two races will be tomorrow May 30th at 12:00hs.
