For people who likes hiking :
This is a very nice path just above the lake :
https://www.ilsentierodelviandante.eu/en/
same is on the other side of the lake
https://greenwaylagodicomo.com/it/
Mandello itself offers opportunities for hiking as well as mountain hiking and climbing
https://www.visitmandello.it/en-us/scopri/itinerari
From Mandello you can walk up the “Grigna”
https://www.montagnelagodicomo.it/en/listings/trails-and-mountain-huts-in-northern-grigna/
Moving around from Mandello or Bellano
To move around trains are available from Lecco to Colico, which means you can walk on the sentiero del viandante between two locations and then come back with the train.
Of course trains will go to Milano Stazione Centrale (about one hour)
To move on the lake : https://www.navigazionelaghi.it/en/ Bellano (and Varenna) are particularly convenient for a day on the lake boat transportation system as from these places you can reach:
Villa Carlotta (near Tremezzo)
Villa Balbianello (near Lenno with a very nice walk to Ossuccio)
Varenna (Villa Monastero)
Menaggio
Bellagio (Villa Melzi)
All at reach with “one day – lake center ticket”
By Car
With a car you can reach anywhere, my preferred places to hike are:
Val Masino e Val Di Mello : https://www.valmasino.info/schede/val-di-mello/
Valmalenco and Bernina (if looking for glaciers)
St. Moritz is 1 hour and a half drive from Mandello.
For non hikers with a car, Corenno Plinio is a nice place off the path together with Piona Monastery.
