On the way out the inclemency of the weather was there to show why sailing is often no chosen as main sport amongst young's who now with a plastic in hands and a screen in the front keep their lives indoors.

20 knots of wind on the way, cloudy and cold, where bright colors are only seen when spinnakers are hoisted or in the special foul weather clothing sailors use to avoid freezing.
The start scheduled for 10:30 in the morning saw the wind decrease a bit to 15 knots and the pin was favored grouping all sailors, a bunch(30%) of them decided to tack right away to the right side of the racecourse, but the left side was the predominant one making NOR 156 (Anders O. Pedersen, Kjell Inger Heiberg and Alex Ringstad) lead away ahead NOR 141 (August Austfjord, Orjan Flo and Daniel Flo Fjaere) and NOR 142 (Lars Ingeberg, Bjorn Johanson and Thomas Elvik) finishing in that order.

The second race had same wind conditions, but it became shiftier, probably at the same rhythm the sun appeared for times to shine and make the day a bit more colorful. The fight for the lead was also interesting as the fleet was compact with many changes in the positions, NOR 124 (Herman H. Johanssen, Christian H. Johanssen and Fabian Spone) managed to take their bullet just a few meters ahead the new young local hot shots from NOR 141 and in third came NOR 156.

For the third race the wind increased a bit and the currents also played a factor in the racecourse, the local knowledge was crucial, making to some sailors difficult to understand the situation, the finishes where again the same as the race before, clearing the path to an overall win from NOR 156 in the series, but behind the fight was intense NOR 124, NOR 141, NOR 157 (Terje Wang, Odd Godager and Svein Sorensen).

The fourth and last race of the day saw NOR 156 relaxed triple celebrating the day, by winning the last race of the event, consolidating their first Norwegian Championship title and also the fresh 33 birthday for Anders Ostre Pedersen in a race where the wind picked even more, with gust of 24 knots, making interesting beats but even more interesting the downwind with some “shot” situations. The immediate follower was NOR 157 with all their experience and in third the locals and hot shots NOR 141.

At the end of the day the new Norwegian Champions were followed by NOR 124 with Herman, Christian and Fabian only two points ahead locals' hot shots NOR 141 (August, Orjan and Daniel ) who were ahead only two points from veterans NOR 157 (Terje, Odd, Svein).

A very special thank went to Lars and Anne Ingeberg, who had a hell of work to finish their new Lounge-Tapas-Bar directly at the waterfront and hosted all sailors every day… simply perfect, but not to forget Lars and Bjorn, who have in the past years being buying refurbishing “old“ Soling and some of the former owners have used the boats they sailed at past championships or / and Olympics… and all the boats look like new…so the Norwegian class is growing with lot of young sailors.

At this event we saw the first juniors to sail NOR 103 (boat recently recovered) Emil, Emil and Liam (with ages between 13 to 15), and who had a total weight of 150 kg, which is a bit less weight of Roman Koch alone sailing this past weekend at NOR 123, a weight he had when he won his first World-Championship… They sailed well, sometimes aggressive (as young sailors sometimes do; we probably may remember ourselves long time ago!) but with knowledge.

In words from a guest R.K – “At the end it was a fantastic championship at the sunniest place of Norway (sun city) with outstanding hospitality… a place to remember and come back”

The next event in Norway will be the Grundig Hanko Sailing Week held at the last week of June, but a a few Norwegian teams will be making the long trip to Italy to sail the European Championship with not only the intentions to win it, but also to grab the Rien Segaar trophy since their third team pedigree is pure excellence.
