After a failed Saturday where temperatures were excessive low and wind high, after a postponement in shore and then AP over A calling the day off around 1430. Later in the day the SSA hosted a nice championship dinner with crabcakes and shrimps. The early start for Sunday prevented the party to go on too late.
Sunday with a bit better temperature and promising wind from initially North and then Northwest with ups and down from 10 to 17 knots made the racing of the day interesting, where PRO Eric Todd Johnson managed to pull out three races starting at 1000 sharp and finishing the last third race right at 1400hs. He had however to hoist postponement in between the second and third race due to shift to the left and big drop in the wind strength which later came back.
The first race CAN 230 sailing sharp won the one from the start, followed close by GER 1 Koch, Hasenclever and Seydl and in third came CAN 225 with Hall, Empey and Lacey.
The second race with a great start CAN 225 had an intense battle with GER 1 followed close by USA 853 Collins, Rubin and Siegel and finished that way.
The third race CAN 230 claimed their title, not giving a chance to CAN 225 nor GER 2 each boat finishing two points apart at the overall results.
Finally, the sun appeared, making the sail into the harbor the best of the weekend.
There were several quotes, but Josh Lippitt from San Diego fleet came with the best after sailing Meltemi USA 857 a spare boat from Karen O. Campia. He stated: “is a better boat than I am a sailor.”
The next event will be end of June in Kingston the NA Championship being hosted at the Olympic Port and where a bunch of Severn Sailing Members will be attending like the San Diego sailors who are keen to travel.
