The great Soling fleet at the 2025 US Championship was welcomed with three races 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, a nonstop raining and winds from 14 to 17 knots from Northwest, shifty conditions, but at least a non-impressive swell.
Three races were held using ISA standard course number two, what kept sailors from 10 to 1430 in the salty and muddy waters of the Chesapeake bay .
Canadians sharp like usual lead the score overall after the first day. CAN 230 with Ross Findlater, Jordan Smith and Gord Devries had the biggest smile, with two bullets and a third (1,1,3) they were followed closely by CAN 225 Hall, Empey and Lacey who quickly improved over the day achieved the remaining bullet at the last race of the day (3,2,1). GER 1 with Koch, Hasenclever and Seydl also in great shape were thirds with finishes (2,4,2) which led the youth crew to party during the night.
The best US boat was USA 794 all the way from San Diego with Olympian Edward Trevelyan, Alex Yakutis and Andy Folz, the had the following finishes 4,3,4.
To many sailors, the conditions were hard, too cold and wet, this caused an early quit on the way to the racecourse and a boat which decided to call the day after the first race. But the sunny surfers either from the continental west coast or the tropical Island managed to survive without their long johns.
After the racing sailors who still had energy attended to the US Class meeting which had representatives from different fleets such as Hawaii, San Diego, Milwaukee and Annapolis.
This Saturday weather improved a bit, maybe no rain, but the freezing cold temperatures will continue, and three more races are scheduled.
