Dear family of Stu Walker,
Herewith we extend our deepest sympathy, regarding the decease of Stuart Walker. We will remind him as a very warm, enthusiastic and well experienced sailing friend; always willing to help, inform or educate others with great enthusiasm. One of those moments occurred, after a good day of sailing in the Netherlands, he introduced us into his secrets about Soling trimming and Soling sailing. following up the next day by stepping onboard of several Soling competitors, to practice hand on! Along with the determination to travel abroad, to join in various fleets around the world. Stuart was a brilliant man, being able to sail competitive at high age! We will all miss this dear Soling friend! We wish all of you strength in this period, but we really hope you will find comfort in the knowledge that all (Soling) sailors will remember a very dear friend!
Frouk and Robin Segaar Fam. of late Rien Segaar.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to all the extended Walker family. We enjoyed Stuarts company on his UK visits and learned so much. Even amidst the rain squalls on a racetrack in NW Scotland his good humour shone through. And, he had so much time for our sailors new to Solings. A true gentleman Sailor. May the windshifts be with him.

Stuart Walker’s Vision – by sailor Unkownclick on text to hide comment
The US Soling Association sends it sincere condolences to Pat Walker and the whole big Walker Family. Stuart was unique in his ability see everything on the race course so clearly all at once. The telling irony of his later life was that, even as he lost his sight, he never lost his vision. He could look at you even then and know you through and through. The good news is, no matter our failings, he looked for and found the winner in each of us. To the Champ!!! Henry Thomas, President USSA

Attending my first Soling Worlds in Castiglione della Pescaia, Tuscany, in 2005 I first met the man I was subsequently able to race with & against.
After the class meeting he & I had a conversation & he told me “I’ve raced these boats all over the world, but I’ve never done a regatta in England” Well, he still didn’t, but with my help & my boat he has at least done one in Wales & one in Scotland!! And with his help I was able to do the Worlds in Annapolis! Stuart introduced me to Tom Price (his book illustrator) who arranged a boat & an extra member of the crew & together we all had a great time on the Chesapeake bay (Even on Black Friday!!!).
Some years later my wife & I, together with Mark Fisher from Barry Y.C. Soling fleet, were invited to join Stuart & his new wife Patricia to help celebrate his 90th birthday on a boat on the River Thames & I was able to invite him to Helm an RS Elite keelboat on the Tuesday night Solent series from the Island Sailing Club Cowes. Obviously we won our class!!!
So, Sail on Stuart, & enjoy those shifts you are so good at finding & thanks for all your books.

My generation racing together with Stuart. First time at Europe may be Thorn in Switzerland Open National, it’s funny his wife Frances shout on every rounding mark. After the race we took dinner with them and Heike Blok. Lot of story there he said during world war he was sailing north of Japan Sendai with his Pelican class dinghy. And he had same taste like me, pepper lover! Both of our two dishes are so many black pepper powder! May be he loves pepper in heaven.

Warm goodbye from Italy by Bruno Maffezzoliclick on text to hide comment
On behalf of all Italian Soling friends I express my condolences to the family of Stuart Walker: a mith, a teacher, a friend. We all remember how much he was in love with Italy and with the Lake of Garda in particular. Once he said that if the Lake of Garda exists, God must be a sailor. And in order to reinforce the concept, one year ago he was in Torbole as a competitor and completed two races with a 30 knots wind. Now he is legend.
Bruno Maffezzoli (Italian Soling Association President)
