Montreal, Sept 28th to October 1st,
Canada
Day two
The forecast for the second day was quite bad, but surprisingly there was some wind and so the Paul Clissold the RO for the regatta, sent us out after the skippers meeting.
The whole day we had again clouds and rain with a breeze in arange from 10 to 14 knots - from Northeast 60-70 degrees with some tricky shifts and holes... anyway, there were some ups and downs and again sometimes really tough racing.
At nighttime we had the regatta dinner and some speeches about Hans Fogh by some honorary guys like John Kerr former Olympic medal sailor in the Soling class and Paul Henderson former ISAF president.
The bbq was excellent and it was a very nice party in a relaxed atmosphere.
Race 5
CAN 230, CAN 225 and CAN 231 had some lead changes during the race, but finally 230 could pull away and won ahead of 225 and 231.
Race 6
CAN 225 took an early lead and won with ease. There was a real hard fight behind with lots of very close calls and situations; at the end GER 1 finished second ahead of CAN 230.
Race 7
The wind started to decrease and so it was difficult to find the right path, as you can see in the results.
CAN 233 did a perfect job and was leading from the beginning; finally winning with ease ahead of CAN 231 and CAN 225, who had a kinda match race again.
Final and day three
The last day started with heavy rain and very little winds, so the very good race officer left us inside, and the CISA (Canadian International Soling association was able to run a meeting about the next years events.
Race 8
The rain nearly stopped and the wind picked up, so we were sent out in around 10 to 12 knots from 65 to 75 degrees.
Shortly before the start the rain started again and the wind dropped to 8 knots and later always changing a bit from 6 - 10 knots.
CAN 225 was looking like the champion, in case nothing unexpected happens.
CAN 230 and CAN 231 were one point apart and so they did try to cover each other. CAN 225 took the lead ahead of CAN 231 and CAN 226. The wind shifted a bit to the left and while the leading guys were fighting each other, GER passed them to win ahead of CAN 231 and CAN 225.
So CAN 225 won the title - as expected - with CAN 231 second and CAN 230 third.
A great event was finished and we will come back next year again.
The next big event in Canada will be the North American Championship, next September in Montreal (RStLYC) where entries were already were made at http://na.soling.com
