The SSA Chesapeake Soling Fleet would like to invite you to the 2021 Fall Soling Bowl Regatta at Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis, Maryland, October 28th through October 31st.
The Chesapeake Fall Soling Bowl was first held in 1969 and was won by our illustrious Stuart Walker. Since then, the Fall Bowl has been held almost every year. There are many well-known sailors who have won the original silver bowl, including past Olympic Medalists: Buddy Melges, Hans Fogh, Don Cohan, Jim Brady; America's Cup skippers and crew: Buddy Melges, Ed Baird, Jim Brady, and former Soling World Champions: John Kostecki, Hans Fogh, Bill Abbott, Dave Curtis, Larry Klein, and Peter Hall. This 52 year old “Legends” trophy is definitely worth racing for! This fall will be the first time since 2019 that the Regatta has been held. We are really looking forward to hosting it again.
The Regatta format will be:
A mystery long distance race on Thursday, to be determined. 2 Course races on Friday.
3 Course races on Saturday.
2 races on Sunday with no starts after 2pm.
The Social format after racing will be:
Thursday: On your own for dinner.
Friday: Chowder/Libations/Oysters at SSA. On your own for dinner.
Saturday: Heavy hors d'oeuvres/libations. Reservations can be made for a group dinner locally. Sunday: Awards Ceremony. On your own for drinks and snacks at the SSA snack bar.
We plan to have four days of fun racing and catching up with old and new friends. The SSA, ISA and Soling.com websites will be updated with regatta info soon but in the meantime, please save these dates!
It would be wonderful if you would come to Annapolis to race in the Fall Soling Bowl and we are looking forward to seeing you soon!
