Lake Como, surrounded by small towns and beautiful scenery, will be the location for the next European Championship. Hosted at the town of Mandello del Lario by Lega Navale Italiana the mega city of Milan known worldwide for fashion and amazing cultural life will be close affording easy transportation and opportunities to travel.

The event will be contested from September 30 to October 3. Originally programmed for June in Spain, due to ongoing complications dealing with COVID (lack of vaccine, tough travel requirements) Lega Navale Italiano quickly organized to offer the Soling class a wonderful opportunity to race. Their busy calendar had an ideal opening for the Solings mixed amongst other major sailing events.
The Spanish fleet was also crucial to making this event possible. The ISA hoped to make it possible for many of its members to take part at the event as well as provide them opportunity to organize another major event in the future. Also, from an ISA perspective the timing of the event fit tightly into the international calendar not overlapped with other international events. It falls two weeks after the World Championship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, three weeks before the North American Championship in Annapolis, Maryland, and leaves a two-week gap with the South American Championship to be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil. It also does not overlap with family holidays minimizing domestic issues!

Already 10 entries have registered with many class members happy for the positive reaction and chance to enjoy a fleet race. It has been a dream for the class that 20 boats or more would compete in 2021 and the class is well on its way to making it real! The local fleet of Bellano, now 6 boats at one club, are prepared to race and they sport the only woman at the helm in the Italian class allowing competition for the Reloaded Trophy. The BSA Trophy for the best showing youngest team will be contested as well.

June through August is always busy for the Soling class. In the next few weeks, events around the world will be held including the Brazilian Championship-BRA, Norwegian Championship-NOR, Dezel Cup, Austria-AUT, McNulty Cup, USA so stay tuned to postings on the website for results and commentary.
