Strong winds at the North American Championship

CORK race committee hoisted the D flag early for the Soling class, and sent the teams early to the race course, first race started at 1100 with a nice 15-18 knots breeze from 275 degrees, the short waves building up, NED 33 (den Outer, de Lange and Bosch) which started close to the race committee, were smoking and on fire rounding the weather mark first followed by CAN 225 ( Hall, Hall and McNeil), the race finished with GER 1 (Koch, Kling and Neun) managing to keep the third place after three laps and the mini-reach which it was done with the spinnaker.

The rain came on the second race, it went through, leaving a big lefty and a patch of wind to the right side, shaking all the positions CAN 1 (Abbott, Davis, Abbott) won the race showing their experience ahead NED 33 sailing really good at the championship. In third CAN 210 (Finch, Findlater and De Vries). A few boats already had trouble either not even starting the race or like CAN 225 blowing the outhall and retiring from second race.

At the Third race, shortened due to a heavy squall coming in, also saw some rain and winds above 20 knots, making most teams not to hoist the spinnaker on the last run, CAN 1 again won the race followed by CAN 225 and in third NED 33.

The entrance to the Olympic port caotic for the Solings that had to wait all the Dinghies come in due to the storm. But all happy faces after sailing an exceptional day warm, despite the rain and the wind… just look at USA 828 so far sailing barefoot all the races.

Tonight at the Kingston Yacht Club a Barbecue is scheduled for 1900hs and tomorrow again races will be early at 1100hs
