South American Championship


This event will take place at the Rio Grande Yacht Club in Rio Grande, RS, Brasil
November 17 to 20, 2017

Organising Authority
The organising authority is the International Soling Class (ISA) with the National Authority the Associação Brasileira de Soling (ABS) in conjunction with the Rio Grande Yacht Club (RGYC).

1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 The prescriptions of the Brazilian National Authority will not apply.
1.3 The ISA Class and Championship Rules will apply.
1.4 The following racing rules will be changed: 28.1, 32, 31, 35, 42.3(c), 44.1, 60.1(a), 61.3, 62.2, 66, A4, A11 and Race Signals AP and S. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules.
1.5 Amendments to any of the rules applying to the regatta must be approved and signed by the ISA Liaison Officer appointed for the event.
2. Advertising
Advertising including competitor advertising is permitted in accordance with World Sailing Regulation 20 Advertising Code. Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority.

3. Eligibility and entry
3.1 The regatta is open to all yachts of the International Soling Class as prescribed in Championship Rule 4 – Eligibility.
3.2 ISA Membership is obligatory for all crew members. Membership fees will be collected from any sailor failing to present proof of previously paid membership fee.
3.3 It is also required that all yachts entering display the ISA sticker for the current year. An additional amount will be collected from the helmsman or representative of any yacht not displaying the ISA sticker of the current year at the appropriate position.
3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry forms on the event website http://sa.soling.com .com and completing registration and payment of all fees.

4. Classification
NO classification system or Quota system will be used.

5. Fees
The entry fee will be U$D 400 and may be paid by credit card at the registration desk or by bank transfer to the Yacht Club. The entry fee includes the ISA Championship fee of U$D 40. Entries made online and payment completed before October, 5 will have a discount of 100 U$D.

6. Registration
Participants will be registering their boat at http://sa.soling.com under the ‘documents/ entry form’ tab. RGYC will be open for registration and fee payments on November 16, 2017 14:00 - 18:00, and on November 17, 2017 from 09:30 – 12:00.

7. Schedule
7.1. Boats must be in the water by 12:00 of November 17, 2017.

7.2 Racing is scheduled as follows:
Race Details
Nov 17 2 races, beginning at 1430, each race to follow immediately after
Nov 18 3 races, beginning at 1100, each race to follow immediately after
Nov 19 3 races, beginning at 1100, each race to follow immediately after
Nov 20 reserve day, beginning at 0900, last possible warning signal 1300

7.3 Reserve day only to be used to validate the regatta

7.4 Championship dinner and Prize giving scheduled for Nov 19 at 19:30.

8. Measurement
Yachts will be inspected in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 7.0 Measuring and Class Rules 16 and 17. For a yacht to be eligible to race, her valid (the original or a copy of the original) Measurement Form or Measurement Certificate shall be presented at the Race Office, and the helmsman must have satisfied all measurement and registration requirements as specified in this Notice of Race including the submission (at the completion of measurement) of properly completed measurement work sheets. If the Measurement Form cannot be produced before the first race, RRS 78.2 will be applied.

9. Sailing instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.

10. Course area
In front of northern area of São Jose´ do Norte harbor, called Marambaia.

11. The courses
Standard ISA Championship courses will be used.

12. Penalty system
12.1 The first two sentences of rule 44.1 are changed to: ‘A boat may take a One-Turn Penalty when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 or rule 31 in an incident while racing. However, when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 while in the zone around a mark other than a starting mark, her penalty shall be a Two-Turns Penalty.’
12.2 An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS Appendix N. Their decisions will be final and not subject to appeal in accordance with RRS 70. 5.

13. Scoring

13.1 The Low Points Scoring System of RRS A4 will apply.
13.2 Eight (8) races are scheduled of which 4 must be completed to constitute a valid championship.
13.3 a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
b) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

14. Prizes
Prizes to be awarded to Overall results first, second and third
Classic boat to be awarded to the boat built before January 1st 1980.
Master Trophy to be awarded to the boat with helmsperson older than 50 years old and total age sum greater than 100 years.

15. Disclaimer of liability
Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Competitors in this event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race.
The race organizers (organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any competitor, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, each competitor agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law

16. Insurance
Each participating boat shall have adequate insurance cover specifically including third party liability cover while racing for the duration of the regatta.
