After the last continental event the South American Championship, no more ranked events for 2009, and two winners for the 2009 edition of the North Sails Soling Ranking, Roman Koch and Maxl Koch, two brothers one helming and the other crewing 99% of the time in the same boat.
The 2009 edition had many interesting statistics:
- 363 members listed, and probably missing a bunch of them as per missing registrations, lack of information sent with the results, etc….
- Also amongst them 16 different nations could rank, and two countries are missing: Japan & UK which results are not yet available from their Nationals and other championships.
- The Top ten positions 5 countries and in the top 20 the addition of two more countries from North America and South America, the missing one here, the Argentineans who could not travel during 2009 due to their internal economical situation.
- The top ten in the ranking sailed 5 or more ranked events, many of them the Worlds and the Europeans.
- Also the top ten achieved good results at the European championship, the biggest event during 2009 with more than 40 entries
All these and more only increases the merit of the winners and the followers like the usual winner’s teammate Gregor Bornemann who follows in the list, then in the other hand Austria had Carl Auteried and Martin Kendler jumping into this selected list of the top five by just 1.3 points over the Dutch Johan Offermans the ISA President. Ramadabalaton & Marinepool team from Hungary without their participation at the Worlds ended up in 7th place with György Wossala and Peter Nemeth, and their usual crew Caroly Vezer finishing in 9th.
ISA Secretary was a surprise finishing 10th a direct result due to an excellent European championship, a worlds participation and also an average participation at the South American Championship that granted him an advantage of 1.6 points over an excellent Brazilian team BRA 73 with Dodão Nehm and Marcos P. Ribeiro who only sailed 4 ranked events and achieved great results in the ones.
The 2010 ISA calendar is already online and planning is the best way to achieve great results, taking part in the big events and at least sailing the 4 ranked events is the easiest formula, although you always have to try your best and achieve a good result to climb considerably in the list, there were many top sailors either failing their participation in major events and not taking part in at least 4 events which avoided them to earn more points and many North American and South American sailors fall in this situation.
